Why Au?
Build the Developers Mindset in a language that is simple to learn, and succeed at becoming a software developer!
Au is a programming language that is simple to learn and so is a perfect starting point for your development journey. You may have tried to learn other more complicated languages in the past, and failed, because they are complex and difficult to get to grips with. We built Au to be powerful, yet simple for the novice developer.
The Au learning system means you do not have to understand how to install complex development environments, everything just works in the browser. You can write, edit, run, and debug code without leaving our purpose built development environment.
Au developers build the Developers Mindset, which means you can go on and program in any language because you are now a developer. We lower the barrier to entry so that many more people can get over the difficult software development learning curve, and achieve their dreams to becoming a full stack software developer working in industry (in any programming language).
Full Stack development
for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Coding
The power Au means that you can write full-stack applications using one language and one development environment.
Test your knowledge as you progress through the modules with quizzes which contain mitigation to explain the misconceptions when an incorrect answer is selected.
Advanced Tutorial system
that allows you to
run code in the tutorial
and see the output results, you do not need to swap windows or pause videos.
Our interactive tutorial system has been created with the developers learning journey in mind. You have the ability to run and debug all code snippets in the tutorial pages and you are encouraged to make your own changes to the code to see how they impact the output.
No knowledge of any other programming language or environment required,
everything is taught
on the course
This course has been designed to cater to all developers no matter how much (or how little) coding experience you already have. Jargon is kept to a minimum and where specialised terms are used they are explained and include an example to give some context.
Everything needed to code for the
Console, Front End, Back End and Middleware
The main aim for many when completing this course is a career in software development. You will be taught everything you need to know in order to set yourself off on that journey, the addition of Skills Builders and Au Active projects allow you to put these skills into action way before landing your first development job.
Build your
portfolio
with Au Active
Au Active projects encourage students to put their learning into practice. Students will work to industry standard specifications and designs to better understand how writing a software solution works in the real world.
The Hot Slice Pizza project is an e-commerce platform containing all of the features you would expect on an online food ordering application.

Developer journeys
Learning Au is a gateway to a career in software development. Here is a selection of our brilliant Junior Developers and Undergraduates and what they are doing now!
Cole's
Journey
“I learnt Au and I am now a back-end developer working in the automotive industry. The main languages I use now are Java, Kotlin, Python and Typescript. Au helped me to build my skill-set to be able to use all of these languages proficiently.”
Narjis'
Journey
“After I graduated the Introduction to Programming with Au course, I joined the Au development team and had my first client project ever.”
Hardeep's
Journey
“I learnt Au and now I am a full stack engineer working at a learning software provider for transport companies. The projects that I work on uses a Microsoft stack with a mix of Vue.js and Web Forms on the front end, .Net 6 with C# on the back end and SQL for the databases.”
What our
students
have to say
Narjis
Au Developer
“I've always dreamed to be a software developer ever since I was in high school but the thought of me wasting several years of my life to learn different programming languages for my application to run on different operating systems always scared me away. Until I knew about au. I got attached immediately.”
Will
Au Developer
“Using Au has taught me so many different things such as settings up APIs, building user interfaces, and interacting with databases. This core knowledge I believe will help me to excel with my degree as well as providing me with skills that will help me find a job in the future.”
Mostafa
Au Developer
“Au is an unbelievable experience, I jumped with my knowledge in the world of programming multiple steps in such a short period. I developed my first full stack program at a very early stage in my career. I loved the passion of the community and the education path.”
Tom
Au Developer
“Learning Au was the most fun I have had during my time developing - it is quick to pick up and is so powerful for any uses you have for it. Creating powerful, full stack applications in Au was relatively easy due to its quick learning curve and an excellent IDE.”
Dino
Au Developer
“I really didn’t expect that it would be possible to learn new language in that short amount of time. I would recommend everyone, no matter of the previous experience, to start learning Au and I promise that they wouldn’t regret.”
Ghufran
Au Developer
“My new favourite language, I can't wait to do more with it! Building a fully functioning website much faster than I could in any other language has been pretty incredible!”

core learning part of the module and it is broken down into five tutorials
.
Exercise
- The exercise will use your knowledge of the Core Module to
complete a set of tasks or create a program using the principles you have learnt
. If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to ask the community for help. These exercises will get you coding, for real, using your imagination to solve problems.
Quiz
- The quiz allows you to test yourself on questions related to the Core Module and further reading.
FAQ
- The FAQ answers the most common questions relating to this module.
Progress

Company Full Website (there is also a Hot Slice Pizza worked example). These will take you
several weeks to complete
. You should complete them in the Automic IDE.
All design materials will be provided along with a complete specification
. Again, these projects will be taxing, but if you follow the worked examples, do the exercises, you will be able to handle these larger projects. They will form part of your
portfolio for your Catalyst profile
, and ultimately show others your skills and will help you to get a job in development.
Throughout the tutorials you will be presented with code that you need to read and follow along with. There are many places where you will be expected to write code too.
All of this is to cement the concepts you are being taught
.
Snippets
- Code snippets are used to explain a point in code. You are encouraged to run these snippets, change them and re-run them to see the effects of your changes.
Terminology
- Terminology breaks down
things you might hear as part of a conversation as a developer
.
Skills Builder
- These are quick fire exercises where you use your knowledge to write actual code. Skills Builders are used to test your learning and
allow you to practice in an atomic way
.

read and come back to as the module progresses
.
The Core Module
- This is the
core learning part of the module and it is broken down into five tutorials
.
Progress
- Once you have completed all quizzes and exercises in the module, the module is complete and will be marked as complete on your progress tracker.
Worked Example
- A Worked Example may be used after a section to
explain how to use a feature
to show the practical use.
Project
- There are two large scale projects on this course.
Tap In, Tap Out Travel
, and the
Hot Slice Pizza
Skills Builders are used to test your learning and
allow you to practice in an atomic way
.
